1909 Philadelphia(No Mint Mark) Indian Head Cent Extra Fine to Almost Uncirculated Condition

The Indian Head design, introduced in 1859, depicts Liberty adorned with an Indian headdress rather than a literal representation of a Native American. In its inaugural year, the coin displayed a laurel wreath on the reverse side. However, this was quickly replaced in the following year by an oak wreath featuring a small shield. Notably, coins minted from 1859 to early 1869 exhibit a pointed bust, while those produced from late 1860 to 1864 showcase a more rounded bust.

In XF condition, the coin shows light wear on the highest points of the design. The details of Lady Liberty's headdress, including the feathers and the word "LIBERTY," are sharp but may show slight flattening. The oak wreath on the reverse will be well-defined, with minor wear on the highest points. In AU condition, the coin shows minimal wear, primarily on the highest points. Lady Liberty’s headdress will have almost all details intact, with slight wear visible on the tips of the feathers and the hair curls. The word "LIBERTY" should be clearly readable and sharp. The oak wreath and shield on the reverse will be fully detailed with only the slightest signs of wear.
